Energy Upgrade California®, a statewide initiative aimed at helping residents make more informed energy-management choices, has launched a ten-week contest that will reward Californians playing their part in reducing the state’s energy demands.
The winners of the “Play Your Part” contest will win a package containing products that will help them reduce their overall home energy usage.
“The Play Your Part sweepstakes is a fun and engaging way to help Californians see there are plenty of ways to keep our homes comfortable while reducing our energy usage and maintaining our beautiful environment,” said Regina Marston, Senior Manager for the Center for Sustainable Energy, the entity appointed by the California Public Utilities Commission to implement the Energy Upgrade California initiative. “Whether you rent or own, all Californians can create their own Energy Action Plan and keep track of the energy management actions they pledge to take around their homes. By doing just that, they can be entered to win prizes to help fulfill their plan to save energy, money, and California’s great quality of life.”
In order for residents to be entered into the “Play Your Part” sweepstakes, they must commit to developing and carrying out an Energy Action Plan, which details the measures they will take to conserve and more conscientiously manage their home energy consumption. Once participants have submitted the outline of their Energy Action Plan, they are automatically entered into a ten-week draw with the chance of winning a prize package containing products that will help them to implement it at home.
The ten-week contest is set to run from January 19th to the end of March.
Energy Upgrade California was launched in May to help the state’s residents save money, reduce energy and water usage, and engage communities on meeting climate change targets. With the state still in the midst of a record-breaking drought, the campaign focuses on water conservation as well, through a multicultural advertising campaign, a comprehensive website, retail education, community-based outreach and education, and social media.
Other states across the US have also launched initiatives to engage the public on greater energy and water efficiency at home and work: In 2014, the Shelton Group teamed up with Consumers Energy, DTE Energy and Dow Building Solutions to launch a similar initiative in Michigan — the Avoid Energy Drama campaign— to promote conservation in homes and small businesses.
